Aim: An introduction and update in knowledge and skills of the u/se of the AED Adult BLS and following the current Resuscitation Council (UK) guidelines,
Duration: 3 hours with 20 minute break
Structure: Interactive theoretical session, and facilitated practical session
Ratio: 1 instructor to 8 candidates
Learning outcomes:
- Understand the individual role and responsibilities in responding to persons in emergency situations
- Be able to recognise cardiorespiratory arrest
- Know how to recognise and respond to patients with clinical deterioration,
- Update and reflect on the Resuscitation Council (UK) guidelines for Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Provide basic airway management
- Operation of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) safely and appropriately
- Professional and legal responsibilities
- Review Chain of Survival
- Shockable rhythms
- Understand the principles of defibrillation
- Familiarisation using an AED
- Practise using airway adjuncts, pocket mask and bag-valve-mask
- Practice BLS scenarios with an AED and a manikin
- Continuous assessment for competence
